Industrial hygiene is the science of anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling those workplace conditions that may cause workers injury or illness. Major components of industrial hygiene include the study of air contaminants, chemical hazards, biological hazards, physical hazards, and ergonomic hazards. Through environmental monitoring and analysis we can detect the extent of worker exposure and employ engineering, work practice controls, and other methods to control potential health hazards. Through these industrial hygiene studies, the employer can establish areas of probable exposure, and take steps to mitigate potential exposures.
